GMC introduced its Yukon in 1992; it had a design change in 2007. The 2011 GMC Yukon GMC Yukon continues a long tradition of sport utility vehicles of exceptional performance and quality. Available in both two wheel and four wheel drive, the basic two wheel drive 1500 SLE comes equipped with a gas/ethanol 5.3 liter or 4.8 liter, V8 engine. The top end two wheel drive is the 2WD 4dr 1500 Denali with a 6.2 liter, V8 engine. The four wheel drive Yukon comes in SLE and SLT versions with 5.3 liter V8 engine, and the AWD 4dr 1500 Denali is the top of the line for this model with a 6.2 liter engine.

The two wheel drive SLE engine is rated at 295 hp, while the SLE 4WD is equipped with a 320 hp engine with Active Fuel Management. The Denali models come with 403 hp engine. Hybrid 2WD and 4WD models are available with electric drive system and are rated at 332 hp.

All 2011 Yukon models feature six speed automatic transmission with electronic overdrive, and tow/haul mode and tap up/tap down shifting. The passenger capacities for the different models are:
